Actually, I am very, very happy with the HTC Legend I bought recently, which is called 'the smart phone the iPhone was advertised to be'. I would never buy an iPhone, which is a crippled and overpriced product. If I would spend so much money for something, I want to own it and be free to do what I want with it - alone, Apple doesn't let you and even tries to remote-control you ('censored' and crippled AppStore, requirement to buy a phone plan etc.). If I'd have the bucks, I'd go for the new HTC Desire (in Thailand, it costs about 20.000 Baht) which is even better than the Legend, especially in terms of battery durance, coming with the brilliant AMOLED screen and an 1 GHz processor.
